The purpose of this program is to promote understanding and friendship among students, teachers, parent organizations, public officials, other concerned individuals and diverse communities. It is also an opportunity to engage youth in today’s challenging issues such as global peace, intercultural understanding, the impact of natural disasters, social and political crisis through the transformative lens of art. Contest participants are encouraged to appreciate diversity in our schools and in the world and to recognize the interconnectedness of all beings while creating a powerful visual message of coexistence, tolerance, and peace through their own interpretation. The Art Contest provides students with the opportunity to think broadly about the world issues in the process of becoming better informed and more involved world citizens.
